When I was at school, many years ago, the Lincolnshire uprising was not something that featured on the history curriculum and I came across the information by accident when reading a novel about Tudor times. Two things struck me significantly straight away…. it was history of my own County and secondly the man who sparked it off was a shoemaker in Louth called Nicholas Melton (my own surname) so I began to do some research into what had happened and why.
This website is all about the things that led up to the rebellion and what happened afterwards, so I hope you will enjoy reading about it as much as I have enjoyed the research that led me here….

I have just been reading some old documents..captions cobbler came out , and it struck me , as my mother’s maiden name was Melton ..I and my mother and her mother and father before lived in Louth Lincolnshire.I know my great grandfather is buried at Louth cemetery, and so would suggest he also lived in the town , did you ever find out if you were related to the late , captain cobbler ?
